GURP encourages earthlings to recycle old, worn out, or otherwise unwanted USB flash drives that can be traded in for gift certificates good towards MIMOBOT designer USB flash drives. The GURP4ME contest challenges participants to submit a short, less than one minute, video entry that answers a simple question: Show Mimoco how GURP recycles your flash drives.

Disconforme Announces Classic Jazz Releases From Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole Trio, Red Garland, Sonny Rollins, and more

Several DVD and Audio Releases Coming to North America In June

Disconforme, a label based in Barcelona, will be releasing several Jazz titles this June with the help of MVD Entertainment Group, a distributor/label based in the Philadelphia suburbs. According to Disconforme, their goal is to release definitive editions from musical legends produced by venerated artists that are most appreciated by fans and collectors.

2 albums on 1 CD: Includes the complete albums CLIFFORD BROWN AND MAX ROACH AT BASIN STREET and SONNY ROLLINS PLUS FOUR. Collaborations: SONNY ROLLINS, MAX ROACH, RICHIE POWELL, GEORGE MORROW. This fantastic formation was destined to end in tragedy, for Clifford Brown and pianist Richie Powell died in June 1956 in a car accident. In the short time between Rollins' arrival and Brown's death, the group had the chance to enter the recording studios on three occasions. The results of those sessions - the quintet's only official legacy - originally appeared on the above mentioned albums. RED GARLAND - THE 1956 TRIO (Available on CD - June 2)
This CD reunites all the trio studio recordings made by Red Garland in 1956, featuring Paul Chambers and Art Taylor. It comprises the complete A Garland of Red LP, plus the integral December 14 session (originally divided into two different albums, Groovy and Red Garland's piano), plus a single trio tune ("Ahmad's Blues") recorded during Miles Davis' final marathon sessions for Prestige. In the aforementioned track, Philly Joe Jones plays drums instead of Art Taylor.

ART TATUM/BEN WEBSTER - THE ALBUM (Available on CD - June 2)
Considered a true landmark in recorded jazz history, this CD presents the original Art Tatum - Ben Webster Quartet album in its entirety. It was to be Tatum's last studio session ever, for he died soon after the recording. As a bonus to this outstanding session, we tried to reconstruct the same song order of the Tatum-Webster LP but as a Tatum solo piano album, allowing the listener to compare the pianist's different approach to playing as a soloist and as an accompanist. When Sonny Rollins entered the studio to record "Saxophone Colossus," on June 1956, he had already been a regular member of the celebrated Max Roach - Clifford Brown Quintet. This also explains the presence of Roach. In addition to this classic LP, we added a second quartet album "Work Time," also featuring Max Roach and recorded in the last days of 1955. As Ira Gitler writes in the original liner notes "The dictionary says colossal is gigantic; huge; vast. When applied to Sonny Rollins's talent, it also signifies depth." Flipper Set To Release New Studio And Live Albums

The Band That Wouldn’t Die Celebrates Their 30th Anniversary,
Preps Their First Studio Album in Over 16 Years

Flipper, the seminal punk and original grunge band from San Francisco, simply refuses to die. Despite death, debilitating injury, and departures of former members, the band plays on.

The most recent set back was the departure of Krist Novoselic, who joined the band in December of 2006 for a tour of the UK. At that time, he replaced Bruno DeSmartass who left the band a few months earlier. Novoselic spent about two years with Flipper, playing shows and recording an album of new material as well as a live album. He ultimately gave notice, after deciding the tour grind was no longer in the cards for him.

So once again, Flipper had to take a step back and regroup. This time around the band enlisted Rachel Thoele, formerly of Frightwig, Mudwomen and Van Gough’s Daughter. Along with the three original members, Bruce Loose, Steve Depace, and Ted Falconi, the band is once again road ready.

The two new albums are being released on May 19th. Jack Endino co-produced both albums. The studio offering is entitled Love and the live album is called Fight.

The Band Who Penned The Official UFC Theme Song Will Take Their Aggressive / Melodic Metal Show On The Road

“This new STEMM CD is our Vulgar Display of Power” states lead vocalist / guitarist Joe Cafarella.

Comparing their latest release, Blood Scent (Catch 22 Records) to the epic release by the Metal Gods Pantera is admittedly making a bold statement, but Cafarella will not budge in his reasoning.

“There is a lot that went into the making of this CD. We are not saying that we are the next Pantera, that’s not even close to what I am saying. We just wanted to make a CD that would not pigeon hole us into a certain cliché sound. Let’s face it, Pantera made it on their live performances. While MTV was playing ‘Walk’ and ‘This Love’ us metal heads were cranking Fucking Hostile and Mouth for War. I am telling you that you will get that same type of feeling on the new STEMM CD as you would listening to Vulgar. And it’s just as real…”

And very real Blood Scent is… Rising above the sea of ‘flavor of the week’ metal that is over saturating the industry, Buffalo, NY based STEMM is the band that delivers the fresh breath of air the metal world hasn’t witnessed since the vocal pitch corrector was invented.

Power packed with crushing guitar riffs, a rock solid rhythm section and a vocal technique comparable to that of James Hetfield, Phil Anselmo and Corey Taylor all put together like some metal Frankenstein’s monster, this new release from STEMM will surely have every metal head out there running to the store for a beer instead of the eyeliner!

“We never followed the rules,” says Cafarella. “Our entire career we have felt like the underdogs. No matter how many hoops we jumped through for the industry people, it just wasn’t good enough.”

But STEMM found an ally in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) who took a liking to the band in the beginning stages of their musical career branding them as “The soundtrack to the UFC”….

“We wrote a song called ‘Face the Pain’ which became the theme song for the UFC,” says Cafarella. “The song honestly doesn’t represent what we stand as today musically because we were a young band when we wrote the song.”

But, the UFC still uses the song for all Pay-Per-View events as well as many other STEMM songs from the bands musical library which is also heard as background music for UFC / SPIKE TV programs “Ultimate Fighter” and “Unleashed”. Now, “House of Cards” from the new STEMM release Blood Scent has been selected as the theme song for ‘UFC Wired’ hosted by Joe Rogan (Fear Factor / UFC commentator) on the Fox Network for the 2008 / 2009 season.

“We’re honored to be recognized in the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) community and be able to cross over aggressive music with aggressive sport.”

Indeed, the UFC has given STEMM the same type of exposure and publicity as a label would bring for any other band, placing their music on various UFC related video games available on X-Box and Play Station.

“The beautiful thing about the UFC audience is that it is NOT limited to the metal community,” says bassist Steve Crowl. “It allows our music to cross over throughout alternative rock, metal, and hardcore genres.”

Believe it or not, this type of exposure has placed STEMM on the same stages as legendary rappers, RUN-DMC, hard rockers, GODSMACK to the outrageous SLIPKNOT.

A 2005 indie full length release, Songs for the Incurable Heart brought a licensing deal through I Scream Records which sold over 6000 copies, putting STEMM on tour in support in support for, Chimaira, Mushroomhead, Trivium, Arch Enemy and Bleed The Sky.

Now, armed with their own national distribution deal which enabled the band to start their own label (CATCH 22 RECORDS) the release of Blood Scent will be unleashed to the world on their own terms.

“We’re either too smart or too old,” laughs Cafarella, when asked why the band never pursued a home with a major label. “We don’t think there is anyone out there who will work harder for this band besides ourselves and our fans. Some bands break because they never get the ‘big deal’. We, on the other hand, simply over stepped that boundary…..”

The German Hard Rock Guitar Virtuoso Returns To America with “Gipsy Lady” and His Highly-Skilled Group Of Musicians

“Gipsy Lady” , the first album from the Michael Schenker - Gary Barden Acoustic Project, will be available on CD and vinyl on May 19, just before “In The Midst Of Beauty” Tour begins. Gary Barden's vocals give the cleverly arranged songs just the touch of soul they need for full impact… The long-term Schenkercollaborator wrote the lyrics virtually off the top of his head. Also on board is Michael Voss, an experienced producer, and second guitarist, who also provides background vocals. Kai Luennemann on percussion completes the team.

With such a distinctive, soft sound from Michael Schenker's guitar, this album distinguishes itself easily.
